TEAM TRISPORTS TAKE ON THE WORLD’S BEST

The weekend saw some great results by athletes from Hitchin-based triathlon club Team Trisports.

First up, four athletes turned out in club colours at the Dextro Energy Triathlon, an age-group event that runs alongside the professional ITU World Championship series.

Hosting an Olympic distance age-group event on both the Saturday and Sunday, it was Ross Riddleston and Zoe Bentley (pictured) who took to the start line first on Saturday’s Hyde Park course, with the pair setting times of 2:38:43 and 2:53:28 respectively.

On Sunday’s Buckingham Palace course, Steffan Ford put in a storming time of 2:16:30 to finish 56th overall from 900 athletes and 16th in an age group that included athletes from the USA and Switzerland.

Also in fine form, Gary Smith completed the same event as Ford and set a great time of 2:21:08 for the 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run.

Nearer to home four club members raced the First Saturday of the Month 5k at Norton Common

Mark Malone finished first for the club in a PB time of 22:18 for a finishing position of 11th overall.

There was also a good result for vet Jackie Perry, who was 1st lady in 22:36.

With his recent Ironman adventures not dulling his competitive instincts, Richard Thomas also raced and set a time of 22:38. Tim Smith also took part and crossed the line in 23:19.

Earlier in the week, Mark Harris raced the first FVS 5K finishing in a time of 16:58 for 9th position overall.

And finally, on Tuesday evening Mike Russell completed the NRCC Brickendon Green Evening 10 cycling time trial in 26:31.
