Oi Jon! Got a new motor?

Jon Wilson enjoyed a great day out at the Tri For Life super sprint triathlon as he clocked a time of 1:09:08 at the Dorney Lake venue to finish a superb 2nd overall and 1st in the men’s race.

This past weekend was also a successful one for veteran athlete Brenda Bozwood-Davies as she finished 1st in her age group at a wet and windy Thame Sprint Triathlon in a time of 1:32:31.

At The Big Adventure Store Summer Duathlon, held at the Castle Combe Motor Racing Circuit, a very wet and blustery day welcomed club member Steve Metcalfe.

The race, which consisted of a 5km run, 21km bike and 3km on a traffic-free circuit, saw Metcalfe cross the line in 1:07:00 to secure an excellent 3rd overall.

Further afield but enjoying no better luck with the weather, Sean and Heather Storey flew the Team Trisports flag at the Landudno Triathlon.

Originally designed to be held over the standard Olympic distance of 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km, the extreme weather conditions meant that the swim section was cancelled and the event turned into a Duathlon. Both athletes managed to finish the event and avoid the various spills and crashes that characterised the bike leg.

Elsewhere, Rob Wilson (pictured) took on the M&DTTA Open 50 Mile TT Championship cycling time trial and was rewarded with a new PB time of 2:01:35, an improvement of nearly five minutes, and a finishing position of 10th overall.

Deciding to embrace the wet weekend, Richard Thomas and Drew Lowrie took part in the 3.8k Boxend Swim and in windy and choppy conditions finished in 1:15.09 and 1:19:07 respectively. The event acted as the final preparation for next week’s Ironman Germany for both athletes, where they’ll be joined by six of their team mates to complete the ‘Green Train’ representing the club.

And finally, Darren Greene completed the Ingleborough Mountain Race on Sunday. The event, a 7.5 mile Fell Race which took competitors to the top of the Yorkshire Dales second highest Peak at 723 metres and then back down again, saw Greene finish in a time of 1:09:00.
