Sam Tophill secured a great result at the weekend to win the F45-49 age-group, and finish 16th female athlete overall, at The Beaver Triathlon.

The event, which consisted of a 1.2 mile swim, 46.5 mile bike and 13.1 mile run, took place in wet and windy conditions and saw Tophill cross the line in a time of 5:27:14.

At the same venue but racing over the shorter sprint distance of 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run, Dil Wetherill raced the Speedy Beaver Triathlon, which also acted as the British Sprint Triathlon Championships, and secured a great new PB time of 1:12:58 to finish 12th in his age-group and gain a coveted qualifying slot for the World Championship age-group event.

Elsewhere, Andy Chatterton (pictured) competed at Xterra Italy and set a time of 3:29:51 to finish 14th overall to secure his highest placing in the series so far.

A week earlier, Ian Mackerness raced the Merchant Taylors Triathlon and finished a superb 5th overall and 1st in the 40-49 age group.

His fast time of 2:10:20 was set on a hilly and technical course that saw a number of competitors fall in the wet and tricky conditions.

On the same day, Steve Rust and Tracy Evans took part in the Keswick Mountain Festival Triathlon.

Like Mackerness, their race was hit with challenging weather conditions, but despite some character building conditions and a high attrition rate from other athletes both hung tough to finish in 3:07:44 for Rust and 3:31:18 for Evans.

In between moving house and jobs club member Dave Robins has also managed to keep his triathlon season going by competing in a number of events in recent weeks.

First, on 27th April he raced the Inter Services Duathlon Championships (Navy/Army/RAF/Police) in a time 1:05:45. Then on 14th May he took on Ironman70.3 Mallorca and crossed the line in 5:15:49. And finally on 25th May he took part in the Army Sprint Triathlon Championships and secured an excellent finishing position of 24th overall and 15th in his age-group with a time of 1:03:08.

Last Wednesday Rob Davies and Darren Greene rode the Ashwell 10 Mile Cycling Time Trial and set times of 28:11 and 29:01 respectively.
