‘SUB-3′ FOR PISTOL PETE AT LONDON MARATHON!

Eight athletes from Hitchin-based triathlon club Team Trisports raced in the iconic London Marathon on Sunday and produced some stunning performances in the process.

First to Pete Ryan who smashed over 30 minutes off his previous best marathon time to cross the line in a stellar time of 2:51:48. An impressive achievement in itself, but one made even more so by the hot conditions that made athletes feel every one of the 26.2 miles that made up the famous London route.

There was also a fantastic ‘sub-3’ performance from Ironman specialist Gavin May, whose time of 2:59:53 bodes well for his upcoming assault on Ironman Germany.

In fact, there were a whole host of impressive times from the club’s athletes considering that marathon running is not their speciality.

Gary Smith clocked a super-fast time of 3:04:38, and both Kate Turner and Jo Ravenhill ran under 3:30 to record times of 3:27:18 and 3:28:33 respectively.

Also competing was; Jon Wilson (3:43:33), Lesley Dutton (3:54:14) and Jackie Perry who fought bravely to the finish after suffering in the heat (4:09:09).

On the same day, two athletes represented the club at the Cambridge Duathlon.

The 7.5km run, 40km bike, 7.5km run event acted as a World Duathlon Championship qualifier and as a result brought a competitive field out to play.

Mark Harris was first home for the club in a time of 2:11:14, followed by Chris Priestley who stopped the clock at 2:18:56 to record a PB, finish 5th in his age-group and qualified for the world championships as a result.

And finally; Drew Lowrie, Richard Thomas and Tim Smith raced in the Antelope 3up team time trial on Saturday afternoon clocking a time of 1:27:15 for the 31 mile course.
