Sunday saw three athletes from Hitchin-based triathlon club Team Trisports race at the Big Cow Duathlon in Emberton Park.
The duathlon event, which consisted of a 10km run, 40km bike and 5km run, also acted as a qualifying event for the 2011 Limerick ETU Duathlon European Championships and as a result saw a very strong field line up at the start.
Returning from long term injury, veteran athlete Brian White came back in style to secure a 2nd place finish in his age group and also record a competitive time of 2:23:53.
Finishing first for the club on the day however was Mark Harris; who clocked some blistering run splits to cross the line in 2:23:01.
Also competing was Mark Young in 2:40:35.
Elsewhere, another three club members were in two-wheeled action at the North Road CC Hardriders 25 Mile Time Trial, also on Sunday.
Having seen the race distance reduced to 20 miles due to road works, a highly competitive field were blessed with ideal weather conditions as they competed in an event type that many consider ‘the race of truth’.
Team Trisports’ very own ‘Welsh Wizard’ Steffan Ford showed some good early season form to clock a time of 54:15. Also competing were Pete Eames and Sean Bradley who recorded times of 1:00:45 and 1:05:53 respectively.
And finally, veteran athlete Anna Priestley was rewarded at The Comet Awards last week as she picked up the Veteran Achievement award for her international age-group success last season.
