It was a great weekend for athletes from Hitchin-based triathlon club Team Trisports as a series of strong performances meant honours across a variety of race distances and age groups.
First up, veteran athlete Ian Mackerness finished a brilliant 3rd overall, and 1st Vet, at the Big Cow Sprint Triathlon on Sunday.
Mackerness covered the 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run race distance in a lightning quick time of 1:04:36 to finish nearly three minutes ahead of his 4th place rival.
Also competing were fellow veterans Mark Young, Will Long and Mark Malone. Young set a great time of 1:19:05 to show his late season form, whilst Long and Malone enjoyed a close fought battle to finish in 1:23:42 and 1:23:53 respectively.
The race also marked the triathlon debuts of husband and wife Ross Riddleston (1:25:39) and Zoe Bentley (1:29:18), who loved their first taste of multisport action.
Racing over the longer distance of 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run, Rob Wilson (pictured) and Simon Shaw competed at the Tatton Park Olympic Triathlon on Sunday.
Held in and around the grounds of the National Trust property just south of Manchester, the pair were greeted with typical Mancunian weather (i.e. continuous rain!) as they took on the 734 strong field.
Undeterred, Wilson came home in a time of 2:10:24 to finish a superb 11th position overall and 1st in the 40-44 Age-Group, as well as winning a prize for 2nd place veteran overall. Shaw also set an extremely strong time to clock 2:15:43 to come home 27th overall.
A week earlier Simon Shaw was also in action at the Dunstable Downs Half Marathon and finished in a fantastic 5th place overall, recording a time of 1:36:20 on an off-road course that featured lots of ups and downs, single track and a couple of freshly ploughed fields! Also competing, Steve Rust set a time of 2:03:45.
On the same weekend, Graham Perry took part in the Dunmow Sprint Triathlon, which featured a pool-based 400m swim, 23km bike and 5km run, and finished in a time of 1:27:39.
