‘ONE FOR THE LADIES’ IN EDINBURGH!

Nine athletes from Hitchin based Team Trisports travelled to Edinburgh at the weekend for the ITU Duathlon Age Group World Championships.

In perfect weather, and on probably the most testing championship course on the circuit, the ladies led the way with Kate Turner recording a superb time of 2:33:05 for the 10k run/42k cycle and 5k run up and down the landmark Arthurs Seat which dominates the Edinburgh sky line. Turner had the club’s fastest bike leg and a top 10 finish in the tough 35/39 age group and was followed home by Gemma Sargent who had led Turner after the first run and finished in 17th in the 30/34 age group in 2:34:59.

Dil Wetherill was first home for the men in 2:35:28 (40th 45/49) but the fastest male bike leg was shared by veteran athlete Chris Priestley who finished in 2:36:29 (33rd 55/59) and Steffan Ford who finished in 2:37:50 (39th 30/34)

Jackie Perry was the first veteran female athlete for the club in a super time of 2:42:26 for 15th in the 45/49 age group. Anna Holden was 9th in the 20/24 age group in 2:47:57 with veteran athletes Lesley Dutton finishing in 3:03:41 for 21st in 50/54 and Anna Priestley in 3:10:09 for 11th in the 55-59 age group

Rob Wilson was 5th overall and 2nd 40/44 age group in the North West Triathlon in a time of 1:02:40 for the pool based sprint. He was joined by club mate Simon Shaw who was 14th in 1:05:06. Wilson had won the Clitheroe Triathlon the previous week in a tough event taking in an off road run on the Ribble Valley Way.

Continuing the winning theme, veteran triathlete Ian Mackerness led from gun to tape at the Dorney Lakes Tri for Life winning the event by over 4 minutes. Also at the same venue Kevan Armstrong continued his rich vein of form to finish 25th from 557 finishers in the Dorney Lake 3k swim in 46:07.

Dave Welch completed the tough Vitruvian middle distance triathlon in 5:28:19 and Brian White marked a return to competitive running with an age group winning performance at the Garden City 10 Mile road race recording a time of 62:32 for 1st vet 50.

Rob Davies ran a late season PB in the Bedford Harriers 10k finishing in 45th overall in 40:54.
