Rob Wilson, a member of Hitchin-based triathlon club Team Trisports, finished a spectacular 15th overall at the inaugural Outlaw Triathlon on Sunday.
The race, held over the epic iron distance of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile full marathon run, saw Wilson set a stellar time of 9:53:44 to also finish 3rd in the 40-44 Age-Group. This was Wilson’s first sub-10 hour iron distance time and went some way to making up for the disappointment he’d felt after having illness force him to retire at Ironman Lanzarote earlier in the year.
Also competing was Chris Baxter, who made a fantastic debut over the distance to cross the line in a superb time of 10:55:16, including a 5:23:38 bike split.
From one of the longest triathlons in the world to one of the biggest, four athletes from the club competed at The London Triathlon over the weekend.
First up, elite athlete Stephen Harrison finished 19th overall in the pro race and in the process set a fast time of 1:55:05 for the Olympic distance event of 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run.
In the age-group race, Team Trisports Development Squad athlete Steffan Ford set a great PB time of 2:16:46, also over the Olympic distance, and was joined by Charles Harris and James Utting (2:23:13) in setting sub 2:30 finishes.
And finally, On Tuesday evening Mike Russell raced the Hitchin Nomads Briercliffe 10 mile TT in a season’s best time of 28:04 and two days later ran Race 1 of the Stevenage 5K Midweek Series in a time of 18:38 to finish 4th in the MV50 Age-Group.
