With the triathlon season now at its peak, athletes from Hitchin-based triathlon club Team Trisports were out in action once again at the weekend.
First up, Simon Shaw made his iron-distance debut at the famous Challenge Roth event on Sunday. And what a debut it was! Taking place over the epic race distance of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run, Shaw setting a phenomenal time of 10:20:49, including a 3:37:54 marathon run split and a finishing position of 518th overall out of more than 3200 starters. With crowds in excess of 100,000 lining the route, there was plenty of encouragement for Shaw as set about his awesome debut over the distance.
Also on Sunday, Team Trisports Development Squad athlete Steffan Ford (pictured) continued his strong season as he set a fantastic time of 2:12:50 at the Worthing Triathlon. The race, which forms part of the British Triathlon National Ranking Series, took place over the Olympic distance of 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run and saw Ford finish an excellent 40th overall and 8th in his age-group.
The day before, Kevan and Rachel Armstrong competed at the Big Cotswold Swim and set times of 48:06 and 1:03:57 respectively, with Kevan’s impressive time seeing him finish first in his age-group and 14th overall.
A week earlier, Andy Chatterton continued his off-road triathlon adventures at Xterra France. On what turned out to be an incredible challenging race course, Chatterton finished 15th in his age-group which should see him move back up into the top 5 in the European Standings
