HARRISON’S TOUR DE FORCE!

Elite athlete Stephen Harrison (pictured) finished a superb 2nd overall at the MK Triathlon on Sunday.

On a day when many of the club’s athletes hit top form, Harrison led the way with a blistering finish time of 1:51:20 for the Olympic distance race – including a 32:54 10km run split.
 
Also competing at the race, Charles Harris clocked a rapid 2:09:57 to finish 32nd overall; followed by Pete Ryan in a time of 2:15:34.
 
There were also great performances from the Team Trisports Development Squad; as Gemma Sargent finished first of the club’s female entrants, and in the process recorded her second consecutive sub-2:20 finish to record a new fastest time of 2:17:54. Fellow member Katy Jinks also recorded a PB to lower her best ever Olympic distance time to 2:20:49. And Simon Douglas went below 2:30 for the first time to smash his previous best time by over seven minutes to record 2:23:21.
 
Also recording his first sub-2:30 finish, Rob Davies set an excellent time of 2:21:48 to go miles under his previous benchmark time.
 
There was also some great veteran performances, as Mark Young and Jackie Perry clocked 2:30:00 and 2:31:30 respectively.
 
A little further afield, two athletes from the club travelled abroad to compete in the 2010 Ironman Switzerland event, also on Sunday.
 
Finishing the epic race distance of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile marathon run in a fantastic time of 10:26:58, Adam Laycock continued to enjoy his magnificent season as he added the aforementioned result to his club championship victories. And producing a PB time for the distance, Sam Tophill crossed the line in a time of 12:47:03.
 
Racing the 70.3 format of Ironman, Helen Shulver competed in the Ironman 70.3 Antwerp on Sunday and covered the race distance, which is exactly half that of a full Ironman, in a great time of 5:15:44 
 
Nearer to home, Tony Shortland competed in the age-group event that supported the London round of the Dextro Energy World Championship series in Hyde Park on Saturday and clocked a great time of 1:22:38 for the sprint distance race to just miss out on a top ten age-group finish.
Rob Wilson showed his raw pace at the Boundary Breeze Sprint Triathlon on Sunday to finish the 750m swim, 23km and 5km course in a super-fast time of 1:06:41 to finish 1st in the 40-44 age-group and a brilliant 6th overall.
 
Again over the sprint distance, Lee Thorp raced his second ever sprint triathlon at the Thame Triathlon on Sunday and crossed the line in a lightning-fast time of 1:04:08 to finish 5th in his age-group and 27th overall. Also competing was Brenda Bozwood-Davies who finished first in her age-group in a time of 1:27:56.
 
And finally; Dil Wetheril set a new PB time of 27:10 at the Hitchin Nomads Brierly 10m TT on Tuesday 29th July to average just over 22mph.
