AERO ROB ROCKS THE WELWYN HILLY!

AERO ROB ROCKS THE WELWYN HILLY!
Good Friday saw fifteen athletes from the club take part in the Welwyn Hilly.

The 26 mile cycling time trial took place in cold and windy conditions and, as the name suggests, over a sporting course that provides plenty of undulations for competitors to get their teeth into.

With the weather conditions resulting in slightly slower times overall than in 2009, it was Rob Wilson who made the most of the tricky conditions to post a superb time of 1:10:09 to finish in 16th position overall.

Cycle ace Alex Turner clocked a time of 1:12:49 to finish second for the club and 27th overall, with Steffan Ford producing a strong performance to become the club’s third placed finisher in 1:15:35.

Another notable peformance came from Gemma Sargent, who improved her PB from last year by seven minutes to cross the line in 1:25:19 to make her the first female finisher for the club.

Also competing were: James Foy (1:15:41), Simon Douglas (1:23:18), James Bedford (1:23:45), Tim Smith (1:24:14), Steve Rust (1:25:38), Ian Hobbs (1:26:40), Mike Russell (1:26:51), Katy Jinks (1:29:18), Joel Farrow (1:31:59), Naomi Woodland (1:33:55) and Ryan Johnson (1:41:17).

A little further afield, Andy Chatterton competed at Xterra Portugal on Sunday. The off-road triathlon event which consisted of an open water swim, mountain bike section and off-road run saw Chatterton record a great time of 3 hours 14 minutes to finish 5th in his Age-Group on an extremely challenging and techincal course.
