AWESOME HARRISON DAZZLES IN STOCKHOLM

Athletes from Hitchin based triathlon club FVS TRI were in great form over the weekend as they continued to put in strong performances as the 2009 season starts to draw to a close.

First up; elite athlete Steve Harrison, who is sponsored by local triathlon shop Trisports, carried over his superb form from the London Triathlon to record a spectacular 4th place finish at The Mazda Stockholm Triathlon on Sunday. The race, held over the Olympic distance of 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run, was an incredibly tight affair, with Harrison missing out on a podium place by just two seconds, and the entire top five covered by a mere thirty seconds. Harrison’s superb time of 1:52:00 also made him the first Great Britain athlete across the line.

On the same day but nearer to home, two athletes took part in The Nottingham Sprint Triathlon. First home for the club in a time of 1:19:24 was Gemma Sargent, who finished in an excellent 8th place in her age-group. And also securing a top ten finish in her age-group, Kate Turner clocked a time of 1:21:00 for the 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run to finish 10th in her age-group, in what was only her third triathlon.

Also on Sunday, Richard Allen and Tim Smith competed in a hot and humid Newmarket Duathlon. Allen was first to complete the 2.5 mile run, 14.1 mile technical bike course and final 2.5 mile run in a time of 1:29:37, for 53rd place overall. Smith finished just under two minutes later in a time of 1:31:16 for 61st position.
