AnnaPriestleyHydePark2009DOUBLE AGE-GROUP JOY FOR FVS TRI PAIR

Sunday saw six athletes from Hitchin based triathlon club FVS TRI take part in the sprint and Olympic distance age-group events at the Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Series in London’s Hyde Park.

Veteran athlete Anna Priestley had reason to celebrate after winning her 50-54 age-group in the sprint race with a time of 1:27:27, and qualified for age-group representation at next year’s ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships in Athlone, Ireland in the process. Fellow club member and husband Chris also impressed in the Olympic distance event with a 2nd place finish in the 55-59 age-group; recording a time of 2:37:20.

Also competing in the Olympic distance event, and making their debut over the race distance of 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km, were Kate Turner, who set a great time of 2:41:04 in what was only her second ever triathlon and Karen Parnell, who finished in 3:13:44.

In the sprint race, Simon Douglas finished the 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run in a time of 1:17:58. Also competing was Greg Blount, who finished in a time of 1:31:48.

Also in action on Sunday; James Bedford and veteran athlete Jackie Perry competed in the Cambridge Triathlon with Bedford setting a competitive time of 2:24:46 to finish 3rd in his age-group and Perry finishing just one place lower in her age-group, clocking 2:40:01.

Three athletes took part in the Worthing Olympic Triathlon on Sunday. The event, which featured a sea swim, saw Steve Moakes finish first for the club in a time of 2:48:41 with partner Elodie Irving following home in 3:00:10. Also competing was Nina Pitcairn, who clocked a time of 3:01:39.

After deciding to enter the Salcombe Regatta 5k on the spur of the moment whilst on holiday, James Foy turned up on Sunday and promptly won the race! In addition to securing victory in a time of 16:00, he also won a meal for two at a local restaurant!

Again on Sunday; Jane Chappell raced the Bedfordshire Road CC 25 and clocked a time of 1:07:52.

Club athletes Tim Smith, Kevin Smart and Suzy Hawkins completed the Southern Sportive on Sunday and covered the challenging 82 mile course in a time of 5:23. Kevan Armstrong took part in the off-road event the day before. No result available at time of going to press.

On Wednesday, Karen Dodsworth took part in race 4 of The Triathlete’s World Midweek Series at Dorney Lakes and secured a great result to win the Female 45-49 age-group in a time of 1:20:22

Making the most of a midweek chance to race, Rob Wilson set a blistering personal best time of 22:36 at the final round of the Stevenage Cycling Club ‘Evening 10? Series on Wednesday to officially become the fastest FVS TRI member to ever complete the course. Also competing were Mike Russell, who set a season’s best time of 26:21 and James Bedford, who finished in a time of 28:34.

And finally, Wednesday saw Rob Davies took part in the Ashwell CC 10m TT and set a new PB time of 27:34.
