PB’s for Wilson, Ryan and Smart
Seven athletes from Hitchin based triathlon club FVS TRI were among more than 35,000 competitors in the London Marathon on Sunday. Kevin Sambridge was first home for the club in a brilliant time of 3:19:11. Kevin’s time was all the more remarkable as it was set despite a severely compromised build-up to the race due to knee injury. Robert Wilson set an excellent PB time of 3:20:06 to finish second for the club. Next across the line for FVS TRI was Peter Ryan; who improved on his previous best marathon time by 35 minutes to finish in 3:21:50. John Rose also impressed with a time of 3:29:48. Richard Allen went under four hours in his first ever marathon to clock 3:56:27. Drew Lowrie continued the build-up to his Ironman debut by also competing and crossed the line in a time of 4:32:27. Female athlete Naomi Woodland finished in 4:49:21. And finally; competing with a difference, Phil Parker participated via rowing machine! Phil completed the gym-based challenge in a time of 2:59:29 in aid of charity and has so far raised just over £1300 for the British Heart Foundation and Garden House Hospice.
On the same day; club athlete’s Suzy Hawkins and Kevin Smart continued the running theme by taking part in the Shakespeare Marathon. Suzy made a fantastic marathon debut in a time of 3:33:57, which resulted in 12th female and 190th overall out of 864 finishers. Fiancé Kevin also showed great form to set new PB time of 3:45:04.
Also on Sunday; Gemma Sargent secured a great result in the Norland 10 mile TT finishing 2nd female overall in a time of 28:08.
A week earlier; Darren Greene made his marathon debut in the Bungay Black Dog Marathon. His respectable time of 4 hours and 9 minutes was set despite severe cramp at the 17 mile point that resulted in him having to walk most of the remainder of the race.
