FVS TRI’s long distance specialist and recently engaged couple Kevin Smart and Suzy Hawkins prepared for their 2009 long distance events with a Saturday 106km audax ride with Victoria CC based around Saffron Walden and a Sunday half marathon at Berkhamsted. Suzy Hawkins was a double prize winner in the 2008 club awards with FVS TRI Female Triathlete of the Year and also Most Improved Female. She is attempting her first Ironman distance event in 2009 at Roth, Germany having won an ETU Long Distance Silver medal in 2008. Kevin in addition will also race the Ironman UK event which this year is being held in Bolton for the first time.
Suzy Hawkins finished the Saturday cycle event in 3:40 just behind Kevin in 3:35 but earned a half marathon PB with 1:36:57 and first home for the club ahead of fiancée Kevin in 1:41:32. They were joined by Naomi Woodland who ran 1:44:02 and Mark Beaver 1:48:20
The FVS TRI AGM will take place at Hitchin Boys School Tennis Centre on Thursday March 12th at 8:00pm.
