Milton Keynes Duathlon

15 members of FVS TRI kicked off the multi sport season in style with the first in a 3 race winter duathlon series held at the MK Bowl. First home for the club and 4th vet was Steve James in a time of 1:02:23 for the 4.5k run/16k bike/4k run.  Junior members Sean Bradley and Andy Mussett had an excellent tussle in their race, the lead changing several times before Sean had to retire with injury on the way out of transition after the bike leg. Andy Mussett was awarded 1st Junior on the day only to be advised that in fact he was second due to a problem with the electronic timing. The race jury are still out!  Penny Wylie was the only female competitor for FVS TRI and she won the female veteran race with a time of 1:14:15.  First time outings in a multi sport event for David Welch, Max Lepoutre and Richard Easterbrook will see them all back next month for some more action!  The Club were also pleased to see Aussie Pete Timmins and Tony Hinchliffe racing as they are both now distant members having moved away in late 2006.

EDINBURGH SPRINT TRIATHLON

FVS TRI’s Sally and Dave Harkins made the trip to Edinburgh to celebrate Hogmanay and to compete in the New Years day triathlon. Sadly the celebrations were cancelled due to adverse weather but typically the triathlon went ahead as planned! The sprint event was over a 400m swim in the Commonwealth Pool, an 11 mile cycle over three laps of Arthur’s Seat on closed roads, and a 3.5 mile run over one lap of Arthur’s Seat. Dave completed the tough event in 1:33:01 and Sally 1:50:43 with the wind so strong in places that the bikes were almost stationary!  Welcome support was provided by top FVS TRI cyclist Michael Summers who relocated back to his native Scotland at the end of 2006.

RIBBLE VALLEY 10K

Top triathlete Steve Harrison ended 2006 on a high note with an 11th overall in the high quality Ribble Valley 10K. Despite running a PB of 32.00, this was only good enough for 11th in a race won by International steeplechaser Stuart Stokes in 30:13 heading a field of 953 finishers.

BUNTINGFORD 10

Chris Suckling led the men home at the Buntingford 10 mile road race in 1:10:04 followed by Chris Yuill who was first home for the women in 1:14:00.  Jackie Perry was rewarded with a 3rd place finish in the FV45 veteran category in a time of 1:14:15
